Michael was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) on May 19, 2007 at the age of 13. Spending over 3 months in the hospital for in-patient treatment, he went through multiple rounds of chemo and by August 13, 2007 he had gone through a bone marrow transplant.  His younger brother was a match.  Although he had missed half of his 8th grade year, he went on to graduate middle school and entered Pequannock Township High School with his classmates.  He played football and lacrosse his freshman and sophomore years.

This summer, as he was entering into his junior year and close to his 3 year post tranplant date, 16 year old Michael was not feeling well and received the news that the Leukemia had returned. On Tuesday, August 17, 2010,  Michael was admitted to Hackensack University Medical Center to again go through chemo treatments leading to a stem cell transplant, using an unrelated donor this time.

On October 14, 2010 he received the stem cell transplant.  As he was starting to do well and was supposed to be released in the beginning of November, severe graft vs. host disease set in.  He fought so hard and really struggled with the daily pain and complications.  Our wonderful son, lost his battle on January 18, 2011.  May he Rest In Peace as we try to comprehend all that has happened and as we mourn his loss.  We are truly devastated without him.
